Henry River Mill Village 11.17.06

Back in 2006, my sister in-law, brother and I went on a road trip in search of Henry River Mill Village. It's an old abandoned cotton mill town in the middle of North Carolina, whose last residents I think left in the 70's. It's private property and we eventually got thrown out by a guy on a tractor, but he didn't call the cops and I managed to get some cool shots.  The road goes right through the village and when you're driving it just kind of pops up on you. I guess the people that live and drive through there every day think nothing of it. I was awestruck.

The recent release of the Hunger Games made me think of these images. Part of the films District 12 scenes were filmed here and has brought a lot of attention back to it. The property is now up for sale for $1.4 million. I hope the person who buys it turns it into something cool and doesn't just wreck all the history that is there. Definitely an awesome place! :)
